25 September, 14.00 - 16.00 - Open Plots viewing! TRY's new Open Plots scheme is launched today, a Richmond-wide landshare scheme. TRY volunteers will be at three initial locations to explain the scheme and to take expressions of interest from potential Plotters!
• Temple Grounds, new community orchard and garden. Go through the wrought-iron gates on The Green.
• St John's Centre, Shute Road, Catterick Garrison, new mini-allotments for beginners.
• Richmond School, Darlington Road, herb garden
There will be direction signs posted up at all three locations. And if you come to the TRY Talk mentioned below, you can hear more about this scheme, and you can hear how another town has had spectacular success with its own community gardening project.

25 September, 19.30 - 21.00, Richmond Town Hall. TRY Talk
: Dr Nick Green of Incredible Edible Todmorden will be speaking on sustainable community horticulture. Those of us who've visited Todmorden to see this project have come away inspired and humbled by the commitment and enthusiasm of its volunteers. So if you're interested in allotment growing, guerrilla gardening, share-cropping, grow-bags, or simply mustard-and-cress on a window-ledge, be there!

Before and after the talk there will be a display by local green gardening groups.

4 - 8 October. National Liftshare Week. The simplest way to double, triple or even quadruple your mpg is to share your car and accept a donation towards the fuel! Or to share someone else's, and make a donation. If you're commuting regularly to Teesside or Northallerton, and public transport doesn't quite work for you, or even if you're making a single long-haul journey to Penzance or Aberdeen, take a look at liftsharing. The internet makes it so easy. http://www.liftshare.com/business/liftshareweek.asp
